15 HARMFUL EFFECTS OF SOCIAL EMOTIONAL LEARNING (SEL)

Edited from work by Marsha Metzger of Protect Child Health Coalition:

  1. May contain Comprehensive Sex Education (CSE)
CSE has its own harmful effects (see 15 harmful effects of CSE) and these SEL programs especially undermine parental rights.  SEL is “parenting voice.”

  2. Promotes Data Collection
Collects data to follow students for the “collective good”, potentially including private information, without parental consent.

  3. Impersonates mental health services
Many SEL programs are designed to shape the child’s developing brain to accept particular world views under the guise of mental health benefit.

  4. Promotes psychological evaluations by unqualified teachers.
Intervention may be prescribed by those with limited training that may adversely impact student.

  5. Involves problematic privacy policies
May disclose student data that could be used against parents.

  6. SEL is a belief system or worldview with occult origins.
Certain SEL can be linked to “new age” religion and an occultist (secret knowledge or supernatural).

  7. Spirituality, Mentally and Emotionally abusive
SEL teachings force students to choose between authorities over them - parents versus teachers.

  8. Requires that students accept false narratives
False concepts are presented as based on factual truth.  Some assignments force students to produce false confessions and coerced admissions regarding oppression and acceptance of ideologies contrary to their beliefs.

  9. Systematically undermines established protocols and laws
As a nonacademic framework these programs have circumvented parental rights protections and opt out forms protected by law.

  10. Prevents meaningful regulation or surveillance
Due to the size and constant changing of the websites, virtual lessons and video libraries, it is impossible to pre-approve or monitor lessons.

  11. Revisionist lessons
Due to the progressive integration of SEL with other classes, it promotes itself as a “lever for equity and social justice.”

  12. Schools are heavily funded with targeted grants
Schools receive funding for implementing SEL such as for learning loss. This needs constant investigation and becomes very detailed.

  13. SEL was founded and financed by globalists.
Research indicates that programs are funded by organizations whose goals are global education and indoctrination.

  14. Promotes activism, allegiance, and division
Programs include Critical Race Theory (CRT) and Marxist lessons are taught regarding oppression, oppressors, “intersectionality”, race, gender and religion in ways that promote illegal, sectarian concepts.

  15. Requires special knowledge to expose shielding strategies
Fight back with digital access to review curriculum through student account.  If necessary, use an open records request to review curriculum and programs.  Opt out of SEL classes and surveys.  Share information with others.
